YOU never know who you might bump in to when you’re walking round leafy Lichfield these days – because time travellers are popping up all over the place in the Staffordshire cathedral city.

It’s all thanks to a new interactive Augmented Reality (AR) trail experience now bringing famous characters from the city’s history to life for tourists and locals wandering the historic streets.

Under the banner Lichfield Time Travellers, an easily available AR app allows visitors to meet the likes of Dr Samuel Johnson, poet Anna Seward, Dr Erasmus Darwin, and actor David Garrick.

So how does it work?

First, download the app. Search for Lichfield Time Travellers in the Apple Store or Google Play Store, then hit the streets to seek out the various characters using the interactive map.

To add to the family fun side of things you can collect time crystals from each character you meet, releasing an artefact trapped inside. It’s a bit like Pokémon Go for history fans.
