SHE’S wearing well. Lara Croft is set to celebrate her 30th birthday with a special exhibition in the city where she was born – and fans will be able to take a stroll through the Tomb Raider’s Croft Manor.
Lara is back in the headlines just now with Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner taking on the role in the much-anticipated Tomb Raider live action TV series, helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The award-winning actress, pictured above, was recently injured, reportedly while filming a stunt sequence for the Amazon/MGM production, which is set to be screened on Prime next year.
And in Derby, where game-maker Core Design dreamed up the character, tourism chiefs are getting ready for a set-jetting boom with worldwide interest expected in all things Tomb Raider.

The game was an instant success, reaching the top of the UK and US videogame charts upon its release in 1996, and remains the best-selling game franchise featuring a female lead to this day.
To mark the anniversary, an exhibition entitled Lara Croft – 30 Years On will open in July at the historic Pickford’s House, including not only memorabilia but also making areas of the house look similar to the interior of the fictional Croft Manor.

The house, part of the Derby Museums network, is an elegant Georgian townhouse built by prominent architect Joseph Pickford in 1770 as his family home, and these days hosts collections and exhibitions.
Elsewhere in the city, which has a road named Lara Croft Way, a Tomb Raider Trail is being updated, plans are in place to raise funds for a Lara statue in the city, and other events are planned.

They include the annual Tomb Raider fan gathering in October, which features guest speakers from the franchise’s many iterations, and which has already sold out at the town’s Quad arts centre.
