IT’S a room with a view – and what a view! Horizon 22 is London’s highest viewing gallery, and remarkably in this day and age, admission is completely FREE.

Named after its sky-scraping home, 22 Bishopsgate, you can see all the way to the horizon from 254 metres above ground. That’s higher than the viewing gallery at The Shard.

It’s the highest free viewing gallery in Europe and will offer 300-degree views through floor-to-ceiling windows once the city’s newest tourist attraction opens to the public on September 27.

That’s the good news. The bad news is you’ll have to wait a while. When free tickets went up for grabs on Wednesday, no fewer than 5,000 were snapped up in just the first few minutes.

Horizon 22 is now fully “sold out” for the month ahead. More than 28,000 free tickets have been booked from as far afield as Canada, the USA, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa and Singapore.

There’s still limited entry for walk-ins on the day, but only if there’s enough room left in the viewing gallery so admission can’t be guaranteed. Still, could be worth a punt if you’re in the area.

The next tranche of tickets, allowing admission in November, will be released next month, and the issue is set to continue on a monthly basis.

Horizon 22 is located on Level 58 and will open from 10am to 6pm on weekdays; to 5pm on Saturdays and to 4pm on Sundays, with last admission half an hour before closing time.

There’s no limit on how long you linger and non-commercial photography is encouraged – so take your camera. The nearest Tube stations are Bank, Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Monument.
