TIPTOE through the tulips with me. I’m just back from a visit to the Midlands’ biggest tulip field and it’s been bloomin’ beautiful. No wonder it’s so popular for the social selfie set.
Set in the Warwickshire countryside, Tulleys Tulip Garden is planted with thousands of tulips, and boasts more than 100 different varieties, serving up a riot of colour.

I visited midweek during the season’s last few days, meaning that although it was busy, it wasn’t crowded, and you had plenty of opportunity to wander at will.

Odds are that you’ll chance upon strolling musicians during your visit, with singer-songwriters and duos strumming acoustic guitars and singing new material and classic covers.

Dotted through the field, which is sited next door to Hatton Country World, are 15 selfie spots including sculptures, a motorcycle, hay cart, giant Dutch clogs and a big windmill.

There’s a chill-out area, with picnic tables both covered and outdoors, and a variety of street food vendors headlined by a suitably Dutch pancake stall.

Other options included Greek gyros and salad boxes, wood-smoked pizzas, coffee shops and soft drinks. None were cheap, but prices were akin to those you’d find at street food festivals.

There’s the opportunity to buy tulips, and a gift shop stocked with everything from wooden blooms to fridge magnets, baseball caps and tops to cuddly toys.

The Tulip Garden’s season ended today, but you can make a note in your diary to make a date next year, when the field is likely to be open from the end of March until the May Bank Holiday.

For information and opening dates see the Tulleys website.
