WHAT happened when Ethan Hunt faced off against Paddington on the top of a runaway train? And how do you stave off a hungry dragon when you’re just trying to enjoy an ice cream on the beach?
These are just some of the questions answered in a brilliant new video boasting a stellar cast of Hollywood A-listers, dinosaurs, dragons, a hitman, a nanny, a superhero, a boy wizard … and a talking bear.
Titled Starring Great Britain, it’s a four-minute film that somehow manages to cram in fifteen movies and TV hits filmed on location here in Britain, and features a host of household names and franchises, including Spider-Man, Bridgerton and Jurassic Park.

It’s the brainchild of tourism bureau VisitBritain, who found that in 20 overseas markets, nine out of ten people who are interested in visiting our shores would be keen to see film and TV locations as part of their trip.

Directed by Tom Hooper, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The King’s Speech and Les Misérables, the video cleverly mashes together big movie and TV scenes with a tongue-in-cheek tale of tourists visiting locations.

Highlights include the blending of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning and Paddington 2, and a beach picnic dad trying to shoo away one of the fearsome beasts from House Of Dragons, which seems interested in his ice cream.

There’s plenty of humour, including a birdwatcher’s frustrated aside, upon spotting a certain ubiquitous action hero parachuting down into his binocular view: “Hah! Not him again! Bloody Tom Cruise …” Julia Roberts and Brian Cox get in on the act too.

In order of appearance, the cast includes Zendaya, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jnr, John Cena, Paddington, Hayley Attwell, the cast of Bridgerton, Brian Cox and his Succession family, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, Emily Blunt, Simon Pegg and Renee Zellweger.

There are shots of several movie locations including St Paul’s Cathedral, Lyme Hall (pictured above), Cragside, Holywell Bay, London’s Tower Bridge and Primrose Hill. The video concludes with the message: “Visit the real star of the show”.
